Prom Dresses & Suits Needed

It will soon be Prom Time at high schools across the area. Young ladies will be shopping for that special dress and young men for a new suit, jacket or tuxedo to wear for their big night. However, at some of the high schools in the Cross-Lines' neighborhood, there is no extra money for anything that extravagant in their family budget. In the past, many of the young ladies have gone to their proms in a skirt and blouse or just a simple dress. Young men have worn casual slacks and a shirt.

This will be the fourth year that Cross-Lines will be collecting prom dresses, suits and jackets to distribute at no charge, to the young high school students in the area. Your donations will enable them to have the same kind of clothing that other young people throughout the area wear for that special night.

We are requesting donations of current style prom dresses, suits and sport coats. It is important that the items are in excellent and clean condition, since we do not have the money to have them cleaned. If you have any of these items or know of someone who would like to donate them, or if you have any questions, please contact Mary Minshull at (913) 897-2479. You can drop off your donations at Cross-Lines, 736 Shawnee Ave. Kansas City, KS between the hours of 8:30 am-4:00 pm. Please call (913) 281-3388 before dropping off donations.

Thanks in advance for your support of this special spring event!

Cross-Lines Selected Change for Good Participant

Last October, Cross-Lines applied to participate in The Legends-Change for Good Program, a new plan that gives back to the community. We received notification that we've been selected as one of the participants and will be collecting coins for the months of March and April from the Civic Courtyard Fountain and the Eisenhower Fountain located at The Legends in Wyandotte County near the KS Speedway. Volunteers will be needed towards the end of April to collect the accumulated coins during those particular two months. More info will be available in the next (March/April) newsletter.

In the interim, circle the months of March and April and plan to visit the fountains and toss in your coins. Please help us spread the word to your family, friends, neighbors, churches and business colleagues. The coins are considered a donation to our agency. Thanks in advance for your support.

Plant Sale to Benefit Cross-Lines

Mark your calendars! The 13th Annual Spring Dig Plant Sale to benefit Cross-Lines Community Outreach is almost here. Cross-Lines is an agency located in Kansas City, KS that provides assistance to families and individuals affected by poverty in the community.

FRIENDS of Cross-Lines, a volunteer group, sponsors the plant sale and will be held at Shawnee Presbyterian Church, 6837 Nieman, Shawnee, KS on:

  • Thursday, May 1, 11 am - 7 pm
  • Friday, May 2, 8 am – 7 pm
  • Saturday, May 3, 8 am – noon

Quality plants, which include annuals, perennials, tomatoes, herbs, hanging baskets and patio pots will be available. Purchases are 50% tax deductible! Master gardeners will be available during the sale to answer your gardening questions. They have also volunteered to make custom designed pots. Bring your own flower pot or purchase one of ours and they will help you fill it with beautiful flowers. The sale is under a tent and will be held rain or shine.

You have the option of pre-ordering your plants which will ensure that you get first choice among the various selections. All pre-orders ( side 1 | side 2 ) are due April 14th! Note: Please mail them to Kris Illum at the address listed on the form (not Cross-Lines) with your check (payable to Cross-Lines). If you order at least $200 by April 14, we will deliver free of charge. You may combine several pre-orders (gather your friends) to equal $200, as long as the delivery location is one address.

Orders less than $200 will be available for pick up on Thursday, May 1st from 11:00 am—7:00 pm at Shawnee Presbyterian Church.

This annual benefit raises around $10,000 to support programs for families and individuals affected by poverty. It’s a win-win partnership. You receive beautiful flowers and your generosity gives us the opportunity to provide some of the basic needs to the working poor, such as food, clothing and hope. We look forward to seeing many of you in May!

Remember, Mother’s Day is May 11. Why not surprise her with something for her garden.

Special recognition to our corporate sponsors:
